Welcome back!

Our Hillside Physical Education Department appreciates your cooperation, and support.  We looking forward to another great year with all our students.

The Hillside Physical Education Department is really looking forward to the 2014-15 school year.   Last year was an outstanding year for the Physical Education Department here at Hillside and throughout the El Paso Independent School District and we expect this year to be even better year.

The Hillside Physical Education Department is extremely honored to play an important role in the educational process of our students’ growth.  The exceptional work last year and the historical gains made on the state accountability assessment makes us very proud to serve families that are involved in the entire educational process and we look forward to working with you to continue in improving the Hillside student’s academic success.

The Hillside Physical Education Department will continue to be part of Carol White Federal Grant better known as the Pathways to Borderlands Fitness.  We will have a continuation of the student handbooks and use of the pedometers. While providing a Quality Instruction aligned with state standards.

The objectives for the grant are:

  1. Increase the activity time students spend in physical education class.
  2. Utilize technology so students can measure moderate to vigorous activity.
  3. Provide students with an opportunity to assess health related fitness through the Fitnessgram and to assess their activity level through Activitygram

At Hillside we have the unique role of leading a physical education program that will develop the student’s awareness of health-related fitness, physical competence, and cognitive understanding about physical activity for all students so that they can adopt healthy and physically active lifestyles. The physical education curriculum which encompasses the Kindergarten to Grade 5 Quality Physical Education Program of the EPISD, which is designed to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and for being part of the educational process.  Please feel free to call and set a conference time if we can provide any additional information about the physical education program at Hillside.  All conference periods for all coaches are from 1:00 – 1:45 P.M.
